Orange Pearl
Article By ShortyYou have heard of the "Black Pearl", right? I have always wanted to make a pirate ship, and with Hooters sponsoring us again this year, we made the Orange Pearl.
The first race went good, they made it around the course in 4 minutes, via a zig zag heading. I didn't ride in the boat this year, it was just the girls from my troop. They were first to cross the finish line for this race, and we weren't sure if we were going to make it to the next round.
As we were waiting for the next round of races, we kinda had a big sleep over...
And the boat had a chance to soften up a bit from it's leaks....
They had a time just good enough to make it into the semi-final race. As they gently climbed in, I saw one chine area open up a little crack. The horn blew to start and that is when the bottom gave way under Zach, who's feet were now going thru the bottom of the boat. Wonder if we should have put some flippers on him?
They were still able to make it out to the first bouy before the whole boat capsized and went to pieces.
The rescue divers were immediately on them, and started dragging them back to the start line. Out of the lake came 8 sopping wet kids. I was bummed that the boat didn't hold together, but they liked the sinking!
