second group gets to beach

Article By Shorty

Wayne and Randy were the first of the 2nd group to come in. They had stopped at another group of sailboats up the coast a bit thinking it was us. Randy apologized for cursing my name, he figured I had let the group astray to the wrong point but now could see we made it to the intended spot.

Joining the raft up, Wayne used plenty of padding.

Next coming in is Louis in his Potter 15 "Tortuga", which means Turtle. He waved as he passed the raft up and went right for the shore.

When examining under his bow, it looks like he uses the same technique of ramming the beach and patching it up later.

What a cute little dinghy that Randy has. He does have a sail rig for it, just didn't bring it on this trip.

This is all the gear that Randy brought in his dinghy, man, Randy sure does like to bring lots of comforts from home, and he brought the smallest boat! Later we were joking how it is so true that the gear you would take for one night over is about the same as a week, the only difference being the amount of water and food.

John & Cedric were the last ones out there on the water, we could see his sail but he never seemed to be getting any closer. Randy and Louis fired up the dinghy and went to go check on them.

I started moseying north along the beach to leave a geocache. Looking back, here is what our anchorage looks like.

I found a nice little tree and tied my camo container to it. I have lost several cache containers to raiding and mother nature, this type container seems to survive well since it is tied to a tree, it is hard to see when you aren't looking for it, yet will stay in place during floods. I called it "Palacios Point Beach"

This is what the beach looks like just north of the cache, it looks like a better spot than where we stayed because it has protection from the North / East / West, where the prevailing winds come from.

Walking a bit further north and then looking back to the South, you can see the tree the cache is hidden in and also our boats anchored in the distance.

Got back and there was Bill, making some coffee.

MMMmmmm.... coffee.....

Hey there buddy, since you are boiling a little water anyway....
